My career has made me a voracious learner of the ever-shifting landscape where entertainment and branded storytelling intersect. My journey spans decades of firsthand experience, where I’ve navigated dizzying changes in technology, processes, and content creation—all while staying rooted in the art of storytelling.
I began as an editor of commercials, which then evolved into directing them. Eventually, I transitioned into independent films, taking on roles as a producer, writer, and director. Today, I do all of those things while fully embracing social media content, emerging content platforms, and, of course, I'm all in on generative AI and how it will continue to evolve content creation.
My drive for learning continues to intensify as the journey evolves, and I'm always seeking new opportunities to apply my knowledge and collaborate with others in the art of storytelling.
PING IDENTITY
“This is a thirty-second piece I directed and edited for Ping Identity, entitled “Authorized Purchase”. The action and tension built in thirty seconds is a challenge I relished. A steady diet of MTV, when I was a teenager, burned into my brain this style of editing.”
DELTA DENTAL
“In film editing for comedy, timing resembles a comic's precision in orchestrating laughter, with perfectly timed cuts supporting actors’ performances through rhythm and pacing, leading to a payoff. This slower pace often allows viewers to fill in the blanks of the backstory and anticipate what could happen next, as exemplified in this thirty-second piece I edited and directed for Delta Dental titled 'Pyramid'."
DOW
“This is a three-minute piece I edited for Dow, titled “Green Schools”. These types of brand films blend editing styles rooted in both documentary and cinematic narratives to effectively convey a more detailed and specific message about a brand and its products or initiatives. Additionally, I enjoyed the challenge of editing a piece in a language that required me to dust off my high school-level Spanish skills while also relying on a healthy dose of Google Translate.”
RODEO WARRIORS
"I was the Showrunner for a series centered around rodeo culture entitled 'Rodeo Warriors.' It required full immersion in the lives of the main characters for three months to effectively balance the intense competition with their personal narratives. Working with this extended timeframe presented a unique challenge compared to shorter-form projects, as it necessitated ensuring a consistently compelling and engaging viewing experience. Here's the twenty-three-minute pilot episode, for which I also served as the Senior Editor."
NBA ALL WORLD
“Sometimes, a project is more about oversight. This type of project required me to rely on my comprehensive filmmaking knowledge, which informed my ability to collaborate with cinematographers and animators during pre-production. I find that pre-production decisions typically determine the best possible outcome of the final product. Editing for this piece was not overly complicated, but preparing for the animation in coordination with the cinematography is where the magic came together in this sixty-second piece for NBA All World.”
THE MIDDLE OF X
“Editing "The Middle of X," a feature-length narrative film, which I also wrote and directed, presented a significant challenge due to filming the entire movie in just 10 days. This tight schedule limited coverage, making the editing process particularly demanding. Despite these constraints, I managed to complete the initial 100-minute rough cut within 20 days. Perseverance in storytelling played a crucial role in maintaining the film's momentum and keeping viewers invested in the narrative.”
DRAFT KINGS
"In today's fast-paced social content landscape, my decades of editing experience are essential for crafting quick-turn content. Platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and others demand professionally edited videos to captivate audiences and drive engagement. Take, for instance, the forty-five-second social piece "Signature Shoes / Brianna Stewart" for Draft Kings. This cut is one of over 100 pieces of content I handled post-production on throughout a ten-month period."
REEBOK
"I am showcasing this piece, a four-minute brand film I directed and edited for Reebok’s CrossFit initiative simply because it was one of my favorite projects to work on. I filmed in seven locations around the globe over three weeks and edited as I traveled since the piece was up against a hard deadline for the client. It also demonstrates how exercising restraint in editing enhances beautiful cinematography."
